KDF officer killed outside his house after arriving from Somalia

Residents of Kabarnet, Baringo County woke up to a rude shock following the killing of a Kenya Defence Force (KDF) personnel just a few metres from his house.

Stanley Kipkolomit returned home on Friday from Somalia after completing his assignment as part of the African Peace Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

He was among KDF officers deployed to Somalia in December 2014.

According to his sister Ann Mosop, the late Kipkolomit had called the family while on his way home just to confirm that he was not among the soldiers attacked by the Al Shabaab militants on Friday last week.

According to one of the residents identified as Victor Kiprotich,  Kipkolomi arrived at around midnight and stayed in town meeting friends.

The family says that he went up to his house’s door at the Kaprogonya estate in Karbanet town but was attacked before the wife could open for him.

Kipkolomi’s daughter reported hearing her father knock the door and ask her mother to let him.

“We had slept. I was about to wake up and open the door when my mum picked a torch and proceeded towards the entrance,” she said.

Her mother told her to go sleep as she would see her father the following morning.

She said she did not hear screams but her mother talked to some people outside the house.

The news of her father’s demise was broken to her the following morning.

A boda boda rider, who was with Kipkolomi the previous night, said he received a call from a friend at 1AM informing him that there was a ‘problem’ at Kipkolomi’s house.

“When I arrived, people were viewing his body, which lay in a pool of blood with deep cuts on the head,” he said.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the County Criminal Investigations Officer John Momanyi said that they suspected Kipkolomi’s death was as a result a love triangle.

He intimated that his office had received information that a man suspected of having an intimate relationship with Kipkolomi’s wife had gone missing and his phone switched off.

The wife was taken to hospital for examination to ascertain if she had any intimate relationship moments before the slain officer arrived home.
