KDF recruitment postponed after MPs clash with Defence CS Omamo

The government has cancelled the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise that was scheduled to begin on October 28.

This is after members of the Parliamentary Defence and Foreign Relations Committee clashed with Defense CS Raychelle Omamo over recruitment centers.

The government had indicated that the recruitment would take place at the county headquarters, a move that was opposed by the Parliamentary Defence and Foreign Relations Committee.

The MPs insisted that the exercise should be held at the sub-counties to avoid locking out hundreds of youths.

The Defence Committee Chair Katoo Ole Metito confirmed that the ministry had cancelled the earlier advertisement on the exercise taking place between  October 28 to November 7.

“We resolved as a committee that the ministry reverts to sub-counties as recruitment centres. The ministry has since informed the committee that the advertisement has been cancelled and new dates for recruitment will be announced,” said Ole Metito.

New dates are set to be announced on when the exercise will take place at the ward level.
