KDF seeks 2000 new soldiers as recruitment kicks off

The Ministry of Defence on Monday launched a one-month recruitment exercise that will see about 2000 servicemen and servicewomen, constables, tradesmen and tradeswomen absorbed by the defense forces.

At the same time, KDF also warned the public against participating in bribery and other forms of corruption during the exercise expected to run from February 12 to March 13.

Speaking during the launch, Lieutenant General Joseph Kasaon, who also doubles as the Vice Chief of Defense Forces said measures have been taken to tame corruption.

“Genuine calling letters will be given by the recruiting officers within the recruitment centers, nowhere else,” he said.

“This year we seek to recruit slightly over 2000 eligible men and women from across the nation reflecting the face of Kenya who will thereafter join the Kenya Army, the Kenya Air force, the Kenya Navy, and the Defense Forces,” said Gen. Kasaon.

“The categories to be recruited include servicemen and women and tradesmen and women aged between 18-26 who posses technical qualifications, and constables who are ex-KDF service members aged 30-55 who possess a discharge certificate of minimum “Very Good” in conduct amongst other qualifications,” added Kasaon.

Servicewomen applicants are also required to neither be pregnant during recruitment or training process.
