KDF soldier killed in Kulbiyow attack laid to rest in sorrowful ceremony

A Kenya Defence Forces officer killed during the Al Shabaab on the Kulbiyow base in Somalia was on Monday laid to rest at his home in Kanamkemer village in the outskirts of Lodwar, Turkana County.

Captain Silas Loboche Ekidor was laid to rest in an emotional send off that was attended by his family, friends and colleagues.

The 32-year-old military officer has left behind a widow and one child.

The family, through its spokesman Melan Ekamais, pleaded with the government to assist his widow and child, since he was the family’s sole breadwinner.

In January 27th this year, gunmen belonging to the Al Shabaab terrorist group attacked a remote military base at Kulbiyow in Somalia, killing at least nine soldiers according to official numbers by the KDF spokesman.

Speaking to the media shortly after the attack, Col. Njuguna said that KDF soldiers were quick to act and swiftly repulsed the Al Shabaab militants.

“At about 5:00 am, the enemy (Al Shabaab) attacked the KDF camp but our troops were on high alert and repulsed them. The Al Shabaab had a bad day today,” said Col. Njuguna.
