Five soldiers injured in Shabaab fight

Kenya Defence Forces on Wednesday morning Killed 19 Al Shabaab militants after a fierce fight in Afmadhow, Somalia. KDF spokesman Colonel David Obonyo said the terrorists were planning to stage attacks on AMISOM and Somali National Army camps in Afmadhow, Lower Juba Region but their mission was cut short by hawk-eyed Kenyan soldiers.

Colonel Obonyo said the Al-shabaab terrorists had approached the camp at around 1:00am with intent to attack and cut off the Somali National Army from the KDF camp. He said KDF soldiers on patrol spotted the militants and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

“Following the heavy fighting, KDF killed 19 militants and destroyed one vehicle mounted with a machine gun. KDF also recovered 10 AK-47 rifles, 3 rocket-propelled grenades and several rounds of ammunition” col. Obonyo added.

Al-shabaab’s attempt to attack the SNA and KDF camps in Afmadhow comes two months after the Al-Qaeda linked terror group attacked KDF camp in El Adde killing several soldiers.
