KDF soldiers kill 5 Al-Shabaab militants in Boni Forest

Kenya Defence Forces soldiers on Monday killed five Al-Shabaab militants in an operation in Boni Forest, Lamu County.

The soldiers also recovered six AK-47 rifles, 321 rounds of ammunition, three grenades and various explosive devices after laying an ambush at Bodhei area in Lamu County.

“KDF assures the public that tracking of the terrorists will continue until the area is free from all security threats posed by this group,” said KDF’s Public Affairs Colonel D O Obonyo in a statement to newsrooms.

Colonel Obonyo said that the terrorists are part of sleeper cells that have launched a series of attacks in the volatile Coastal region.

Attacks

In July this year, nine people were killed at Jima village in Lamu west while in August 3 were killed during an Al-Shabaab attack on a bus in Witu County.

President Kenyatta during a campaign rally in the July this year  urged locals to support the operation saying ‘flushing out the militants is crucial to national security.’
