Keep Calm And Serve Electorate, Kenyatta To Meru Leaders

Mr. Kenyatta, who is accompanied by his deputy William Ruto on a two-day official visit to Meru County, has commended Meru leaders for resolving to work together in serving the electorate saying Kenyans expect service from their leaders, not petty squabbles.

“We need to remember that Kenyans elected us so that we improve their lives, but not to fight among ourselves,” President Kenyatta told the leaders.

The President and his Deputy Ruto have called on all Jubilee affiliate parties to unite under the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) in order to forge ahead in development.

His statement followed a recent supremacy battle between political leaders from the area.

Kenyatta, who was opening the Meru-Mariba-Nkubu-Mitunguu and Imenti-Kionyo-Chogoria-Ndagene Loop roads, said that political battles on who becomes the leader of Meru should not bring down the unity that has been built over years.

The roads, covering 84 km, will serve several tea factories in Imenti South Sub-County including the famous Imenti and Kionyo tea factories.

There has been discord over leadership in the region, largely emanating from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties after Tharaka Nithi’s Senator Kithure Kindiki was installed as an elder of the Njuri Ncheke, and given the blessing to seek the deputy presidency of the country, a move that did not sit well with Meru county leaders Senator Kiraitu Murungi and Governor Peter Munya.
