Keep off Kwale politics, ODM leaders to Joho

A section of Islamic leaders allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Kwale County have expressed fears that the Jubilee Party will win most of the elective seats in the August polls if the party will not conduct a free, fair and transparent nominations.

Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho, who is the ODM’s deputy party leader, has been accused multiple times of trying to push for his preferred candidates to clinch the ODM party tickets in various seats including the gubernatorial and senatorial seats in Kwale County.

Led by Sheikh Amiri Banda, the Kwale leaders now want Governor Joho to stop meddling in Kwale Count politics, and let the people to choose their own candidates.

“Our fight is to ensure that Jubilee stands no chance in Kwale, but now it appears that we want to fight each other from within ODM. Why should a commissioner from Mombasa chosen by Mombasa leaders come in Kwale and dictate to us?” queried Sheikh Amir Banda.

Reports indicate that Kwale ODM party officials are planning to visit the party’s national headquarters in Nairobi, to meet with the National Executive Committee (NEC) and have the issues addressed.

ODM Kwale Secretary General, Omar Boga, now says that the party will be hit by massive defections for candidates who fear botched nominations if the issue will not be resolved early enough.
