Keep off my functions, MP tells Governor

In what seems to be a growing animosity between Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, the later now wants the county boss to respect his functions by keeping off.

Kamau accuses the Governor of ‘invading’ his function with intent to cause chaos.

The comments by the MP follows an incident in Kamahuha where Governor Wa Iria attended a fund’s drive where Kamau was the chief guest but represented by his wife, Agnes Irungu.

It is alleged that the Governor’s supporters caused chaos disrupting the function. The Governor is accused to have arrived at the function with his supporters riding on boda bodas while a Public Address system mounted on one of his vehicles caused excessive disturbance through loud music.

The MP now wants the Governor to keep off his functions.

“Just like I don’t attend his functions to disrupt them and cause chaos, I also expect him to show me the respect that I deserve,” the MP said.

The MP further argues that the Governor has so far attended and disrupted his three events in two months, citing his expression of interest in the gubernatorial seat as the likely cause of the rivalry.

“On June 24, 2016 during a prize giving day at Gatanga Girls Secondary School, Wa Iria attended the function uninvited after he learnt that I was the chief guest,” noted the MP.

“On June 12th, the Governor turned up for an event I was invited as the chief guest. He had to disrupt his itinerary after learning that I was in Githiambo.”

The MP has now called on the line government agencies to take action against politicians he says are out to divide Kenyans along tribal lines adding that such divisions are a recipe for chaos even as the country gears to the 2017 General Election.

Wa Iria and Kamau have been at loggerheads since the latter expressed interest in the gubernatorial seat.

The MP has also been a fierce critic of the Governor accusing him of mismanaging the county resources.

The Governor, on the other hand, has accused the MP of failing to respect his office.
