Keep politics off Churches, MP Kega warns politicians

Kieni Member of Parliament, Kanini Kega, has cautioned politicians against engaging in politics in Churches.

Speaking after attending a church service in Nyeri on Saturday, Kega said that it is detestable for political leaders to use Churches as platforms for political exchanges.

“It is despicable for politicians to use Churches to engage in political attacks and rhetoric,” he said.

“Political leaders who are interesting in political exchanges should organise public barazas to engage in politics and leave Churches out of it.”

His pronouncement comes barely a week after a Catholic Bishop in Embu warned churches against inviting politicians to fundraisers as guests of honour.

Bishop Paul Kariuki also warned religious leaders against leasing out church halls and compounds as venues for political meetings.

These measures, according to the Bishop, are aimed at keeping the faithful focused and giving them an opportunity to choose leaders without preferential considerations.
