Kenya Airways clarifies why it did not ferry Kenya Sevens team to Nairobi

Kenya Airways has come out to explain why it could not ferry the Kenya Sevens team to Nairobi after their Singapore Sevens tournament main cup win.

Speaking during the team’s grand reception at a Nairobi Hotel, Kenya Airwards CEO Mbuvi Ngunza said that Qatar Airways ferried the team to Nairobi from Singapore owing to their position as the sponsors of the Hong Kong and Singapore series.

“There has been questions on social media as to why a different carrier ferried the Kenya Sevens team to Nairobi. I would like to clarify that that carrier (Qatar Airways) is the official carrier of the IRB Series for Hong Kong and Singapore,” he stated.

“Allow me to confirm that we have been sponsors of the team since 2008 and we will continue doing so.”

He called on Kenyans to support Kenya Airways and help it reach the levels of sponsoring IRB series.

Responding to a question on Twitter, Kenya Airways stated: “We gave our heroes a convenient connection via airline to airline agreement…”

The reception was also attended by Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’, Kenya Airways board chair Dennis Awori, Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario among others.
