Kenya announces 637 new cases of coronavirus, 10 deaths

637 people have tested positive for the new coronavirus, the Ministry of Health announced in a televised statement on Wednesday.

14 of the new cases are foreign nationals while the rest are Kenyan citizens.

This now brings the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic was reported to 14,805.

Of the new cases are 361 male while 276 are female aged between 1 and 88-years-old.

The new cases are from 4275 samples tested in the last 24 hours and bring the total number of samples tested so far to 254,273.

The cases are spread out across the country as follows: Nairobi (342), Machakos (85) Kajiado (57), Kiambu (51), Nakuru (22), Mombasa (17), Marsabit(), Nyeri (13), Busia (10), Murang’a (9), Uasin Gishu (6), Bomet (5), Kericho (3), Kisii (3), Marsabit (2), and Narok, Vihiga, Meru, Garissa, Embu, Kakamega, Kisumu Kitui, Laikipia, Kilifi and Homabay have (1) case each.

In Narobi the 342 cases are distributed as follows: Westlands (32), Kamukunji (44), Langata (31), Embakasi South (26), Dagoretti North (24), Embakasi East (24), Kasarani (23), Embakasi West (19), Kibra (18), Makadara (17), Starehe (17), Ruaraka (14), Emabakasi Central 13), Embakasi North (11), Roysambu (11). Mathare (10) and Dagoretti South (8).

In Machakos, the 85 cases are distributed as follows: Athi River (73), Machakos (11) and Kangundo (1).

In Kajiado, the (57) cases are from Kajiado North (25), Kajiado East (20) and Kajiado Central (10) and Loitoktok (2).

In Kiambu, the 51 cases are from Kabete (12), Kikuyu and Thika (7) each, Lari and Ruiru (6) cases each, Gatundu (5), Limuru (2), Kiambaa (4), Githinguri (1) and Juja (1).

499 patients have also recovered from the coronavirus: 93 were from various hospitals while the rest were under the home-care system.

At the same time, 10 patients have succumbed to the virus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 260.
