Kenya Breweries to support govt in fight against alcoholism

Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) has reiterated that it will continue supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta in the fight against illicit brews and second generation alcohol.

Speaking after handing over Ksh 3.2 million sanitation blocks to Mweiga Market Association in Kieni, Nyeri County, KBL Managing Director Jane Karuku assured the government that KBL will continue with its ‘Usipewe’ campaign in a bid to sensitize youth against alcoholism.

Karuku said the company will continue to producing quality brands and sensitize its customers on the need to drink responsibly.

This comes barely a day after police destroyed 1,000 litres of illicit brew in Narok Town during a routine check up by County administration officers in London area.

Speaking during the raid, Narok County Commissioner Emanuel Masikonde expressed concern over the re-surfacing of illicit brew and second generation alcohol dens in the county.

The fight against illicit brew has also attracted the attention of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Last month, Kenyatta ordered the second phase of the crackdown of illegal alcohol in central Kenya.
