Kenya, China Sign Standard Gauge Railway Deal

President Uhuru Kenyatta sealed the deal with visiting Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and will see China finance the railway project to the tune of 277 billion shillings with Kenya meeting the remaining 50 billion shillings.

Speaking at State House Nairobi after the signing, President Kenyatta noted that the rail project will cement cooperation between Kenya and China, especially in infrastructure development.

The Chinese Premier asked the CHINa road and bridges company that will build the Mombasa-Nairobi-Malaba railway to ensure they observe Kenyan laws during their construction process and do their work diligently.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni thanked China for their mutual cooperation in developing regional infrastructure, noting that rail and power were key to regional development.
