Kenya confirms two more coronavirus cases

The number of coronavirus cases in Kenya has risen to three after two more people tested positive.

Addressing the nation on Sunday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the two new cases came into contact with the first victim; a Kenyan lady who is reported to have returned to Nairobi from the US via London.

“As you may recall, when we first announced the confirmation of the first case, we stated that we had traced 27 persons who had come into contact with the first patient. We have since tested the 27 people at our National Influenza Center.

“Today, we have received confirmation of two more cases of the coronavirus. The two have tested positive as a result of coming into contact with the first patient,” said Kenyatta.

The president further stated that the victims have since been moved into the Kenyatta National Hospital isolation facility.

“Our health officials have already moved them into Kenyatta National Hospital isolation facility. The medical teams are closely monitoring the patients who are reported to be in stable condition and are responding well to treatment,” said Kenyatta.

The Ministry of Health confirmed the first coronavirus case in Nairobi on March 12, 2020 since the beginning of the outbreak in China in December 2019.

The woman was confirmed positive by the National Influenza Centre Laboratory at the National Public Health Laboratories of the Ministry of Health.

Addressing the media on Friday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the patient was “clinically stable, and is being managed at the Infectious Diseases Unit at the Kenyatta National Hospital.”

“The Lady is now stable and behaving quite normally. There is no need for alarm. The Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Health, continues to strengthen measures to ensure no further transmission of the disease in Kenya,” said the CS in a press address.
