Kenya, Ethiopia Shine At The IAAF Championships

Kipsang adds the world cross country title to his world half marathon title while Muchiri settled for the silver medal. Ethiopian Muktar Edris added another bronze medal to his 2013 junior race.

The senior women’s 8km, which was a battle for the East African queen of racing, and with an impressive start-to-finish victory saw Agnes Tirop bring home Kenya’s 300th IAAF world cross country championships medal.

Tirop becomes the youngest senior women's winner since South Africa’s Zola Budd in 1985.

Senbere Teferi and Netsanet Gudeta of Ethiopia won silver and bronze respectively.

In the junior women’s 6 km race, Kenyans dropped off in the last 2 km leaving the team title to Ethiopians who scooped all individual medals led by Letesenbet Gidey, who won her first gold medal in her first international race after clocking 19 minutes and 48 seconds, followed by Dera Dida and Etagegn Woldu.

Kenya’s Daisy Jepkemei finished 4th, 11 seconds after Woldu.

Yassin Haji successfully defended and retained Ethiopian honor by wining junior men’s title. Alfred Ngeno and Geoffrey Korir won silver and bronze respectively.

Kenya won 3 team titles in both senior and junior men category and the senior women category.
