Kenya gets Sh10 billion grant for green energy

Kenya is set to benefit from a Sh10 billion grant from the government of Denmark through the global green growth initiative.

According to Denmark’s deputy head of mission Lars Bredal, the funds would be channeled to the country in a span of five years.

The grant will help Kenya fund clean energy programmes as well as other eco-friendly initiatives.

Speaking in Naivasha, Bredal said the Danish government is committed to assisting Kenya achieve its vision 2030 goals through the global green growth initiative.

It should be emphasized that the global green growth initiative is a win-win situation. We talk about conserving energy and that’s what we would want to support,” said Bredal.

The principal secretary for Industrialisation, Dr Wilson Songa, challenged government departments to be ready before the projected El Nino rains hit the country.

Songa warned that communities living in flood prone areas and on highlands should start moving out to avoid loss of life and property.

It is a time to make sure that those on the highlands come down as the areas are prone to mudslides,” said Songa.

South Korea’s deputy head of mission, Ki-Jun, has also assured Kenya that his country fully supports the global green growth initiative.

“I will certainly consider how much we can contribute to the efforts on the part of the Kenyan Government in supporting the green growth initiative,” said Ki-Jun.
