Kenya kills seven Shabaab militants

Kenya Defence Forces have killed seven Al Shabaab militants during a fierce battle at Elade, Somalia. One KDF soldier was however also killed in yet another victory for Kenyan forces who are carrying out a sustained onslaught to drive the militants away from Kenya’s border.

KDF spokesman Colonel David Obonyo said the troops operating under AMISOM were on patrol when their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Lagolei town.

Obonyo said the soldiers a gun battle ensued where KDF recovered 8 ak-47 rifles, grenades and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Obonyo said Al Shabaab attacks have recently become rampant as troops operating under AMISOM push them away from areas bordering Kenya even as the country enhances security ahead of US President Barack Obama’s visit next week.

Meanwhile a KDF soldier has been jailed for two and a half years after being found guilty of bribery.

A court martial found Corporal Tumaini Kea Gome guilty of obtaining 337,000 shillings from Binti Sumuni Mwinyi while pretending that he was in a position to recruit Hamadi Magabi and Masud Omari  into the Kenya Defence Forces.
