Kenya marks 52nd Jamhuri Day

Kenyans are today marking the 52nd Jamhuri day celebrations.Today’s Jamhuri Day is the sixth under the current constitution adopted in 2010.

President Kenyatta will lead the Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Nyayo Stadium.

It will be the 3rd Jamhuri celebration to be officiated by President Kenyatta.

Kenya gained independence from Britain on 12 December 1963. Kenya’s population has grown from about ten million in 1963 to an estimated 40 million in 2014.

The day is used by the country to reflect on the gains made since Independence.

President Kenyatta is expected to outline the country’s social, economic and political developments in his speech.

The day comes amid concerns of rampant corruption and high cost of living.
