Kenya not on path intended by founding fathers – Raila Odinga

Corruption, tribalism and the politics and economics of marginalization and exclusion’ have ravaged Kenya and distracted the country from the path intended by the founding fathers, former Prime Minister and CORD leader Raila Odinga has said.

In his Jamhuri Day message to the country via a statement to the newsrooms, Raila urged Kenyans to speak out against the ‘evils’ and start the work of building a prosperous Kenya.

The opposition leader asked Kenyans to join hands in celebrating 53 years of independence noting that: “The forefathers were right in their faith that we could manage our own affairs and chart our destiny alongside other nations,”

President Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation to celebrate the 53rd Jamhuri Day at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Monday at a time when his government is under immense pressure to deal with mega corruption scandals that have plagued the administration.

The opposition, led by CORD leader Raila Odinga, has repeatedly accused the government of ineptitude in the fight against corruption.

The president on his part has slammed the opposition for lopsidedness in the fight against corruption, condemning Raila Odinga for sanitising corruption perpetrated by members of his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and shielding them from justice.

The opposition has also accused the Jubilee Administration of exercising tribalism in government appointments, insisting that it has failed in actualizing the founding fathers’ vision of inclusivity and freedom for all.
