Kenya Ports Authority MD Catherine Mturi sent home

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Catherine Mturi-Wairi has been sent on compulsory leave.

Sources tell Citizen TV  that Mturi-Wairi was sent home on Wednesday evening by the board for failing to meet performance targets.

The decision follows a series of system failure that have gripped port operations in the last one week.

These failures have resulted into massive delays costing both importers and the port management loss of revenue.

Sources further say the decision was also linked to failure by the port management to curb on illicit imports, counterfeits and contraband.

Mturi-Wairi was appointed to head the port in July 2016.
