Kenya Ports Authority Union Officials Sacked

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) dismissed 28 union officials on Friday, an action that the office bearers claim is meant to intimidate them.

This comes just three days after KPA employees downed their tools to protest the new NHIF rates after their Union’s Secretary General, Simon Sang, called for a mass action.

The union officials are now threatening to take a political stand by joining the opposition in order to eject the current Government in 2017 for failure to address their grievances.

They have further faulted KPA for advertising the workers vacancies and even barring them from accessing the port adding that they will challenge the authority’s action in court.

On Thursday, KPA Managing Director Gichiri Ndua announced that the authority had lost an estimated Ksh.100M following the strike.
