Kenya Prisons fail to travel for Africa Club championship

The four-time continental champions did not manage to travel due to lack of clearance and financial constraints.

According to team manager David Kilundo, efforts by the Prisons department and the government to get funding and clearance for the team bore no fruit making it impossible to honour the competition.

“We’ve been preparing well for the competition that is set to be played in Egypt, but unfortunately the team was not able to travel due to lack of funds,” said Kilundo.

LOCAL LEAGUE

The team manager said that the team will now focus on the ongoing Kenya Volleyball league with plans underway to travel to Malava for weekend matches.

"Having failed to attend the African championship, the team will now shift focus to the local volleyball league with plans underway to travel to Malava for weekend matches,” he said.

Kenya Prisons lost the title to GSP of Algeria last year.

The club’s withdrawal means Kenya will only be represented by Kenya Pipeline and KCB. The two teams left the country Tuesday night for the competition.

Pipeline will be looking to win their fourth African title and an opportunity to represent the continent in the world volleyball for the first time since 2005.
