Kenya records 10 new coronavirus deaths, 426 positive cases

A 3-month-old baby is among 426 cases of the new coronavirus announced on Thursday.

Ministry of Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said the new cases include 417 Kenyans and 9 foreigners.

The cases are from 5158 samples and bring the total number of cases in the country to 31,441.

239 of the new cases are male while 187 are female aged between 3-months-old and 87-years-old.

The new cases are distributed across the country as follows:

Nairobi (132), Kajiado (63), Kericho (48), Kiambu (24), Machakos (21), Migori (17), Mombasa (16), Kitui (13), Laikipia 13), Kisumu and Nakuru (11) cases each, Uasin Gishu (10), Tharaka Nithi (8), Nyeri and Busia (7) cases each, Makueni (6), Kilifi (4), Garissa (3), Nyandarua (3), Isiolo and Embu (2) cases each, Meru, Kirinyaga, Kakamega, Baringo and Lamu (1) case each.

The Ministry of Health also announced 257 new recoveries which bring  the total number of recoveries so far to 17,869.

195 of the new recoveries were people under the home-based care system while 62 were in various facilities across the country.

At the same time, the coronavirus deathtoll in the country has risen to 516 after 10 patients succumbed between Wednesday and Thursday.

Three of the new deaths are community deaths and are from people aged below 30 years.

The Ministry of Health has reiterated on the need for the younger population to seek medical attention should they feel unwell instead of self-medicating.
