Kenya records 1,041 new COVID-19 cases, 19 deaths

Kenya has recorded 1,041 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 7,753 tested in the last 24 hours marking a positivity rate of 13.4%. The total confirmed positive 19 cases now stand at 150,260.

The Ministry of Health, in a statement issued on Friday, also announced that 19 deaths had been reported in the last 24 hours with, one having occurred in the last 24 hours, 9 on diverse dates within the last one month, while 9 are late deaths conducted from facility record audits.

The 1,041 new cases are distributed across the counties as follows: Nairobi 323, Trans Nzoia 71, Mombasa 62, Nakuru 44, Uasin Gishu 43, Nyamira 43, Siaya 41, Kitui 40, Kisumu 36, Nyeri 32, Busia 31, Kiambu 28, Meru 27, Kakamega 25, Kilifi 22, Turkana 18, and Nyandarua 17.

Machakos and Garissa had 16 cases each, Tharaka-Nithi 15, Bungoma 12, Kajiado and Nandi 10 cases each, Makueni 9, Hama Bay 8, Kericho 7, Mandera 6, Laikipia and Murang’a 5 cases each, Taita Taveta 3, Isiolo, Kisii, Marsabit, Migori, Narok, Vihiga and West Pokot 2 cases each, Elgeyo Marakwet and Kwale 1 case each.

At the same time, 343 patients are reported to  have recovered from the disease, 217 from Home Based and Isolation Care while 126 are from various health facilities across the country. Total number of recoveries now stand at 100,980.

According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 1,588 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,757 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Currently there are 260 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 47 of whom are on ventilatory support and 164 on supplemental oxygen. 49 patients are on observation.

“Another 246 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 234 of them in general wards and 12 in High Dependency Units (HDU),” said the Ministry.

On the ongoing vaccination exercise, a total of 28,234 people have been recently vaccinated countrywide pushing the total number of those vaccinated in the country to 651,650.

“From this 365,178 are those aged 58 years and above, 136,084 are Health care workers, 97,786 are Teachers while 52,602 are Security Officers. Men constitute 56% while women are 44%,” added the Ministry.
