Kenya records 113 new COVID-19 cases, 6 deaths

Kenya has confirmed 113 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of people have tested positive of 2,680 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a poaitivity rate of 4.2%.

This now brings the total confirmed cases to 246,643 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,500,729.

“From the cases 104 are Kenyans while 9 are foreigners. 58 females while 55 are males. The youngest is a five-year-old child while the oldest is 91 years,” said the Ministry.

The 113 new cases are distributed as follows: Nairobi 60, Garissa 9, Kiambu 8, Meru 8, Kajiado 5, Kitui 5, Nakuru 4, West Pokot 4, Marsabit 2,
Tharaka Nithi 2, Embu 1, Kericho 1, Kwale 1, Laikipia 1, Machakos 1 and Murang’a 1.

At the same time 6 patients have succumbed to the disease, one of them having occurred in the last 24 hours while 5 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in September 2021.

Meanwhile, 655 patients have recovered from the disease with 465 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 190 from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 237,950 of whom 192,448 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 45,502 are from various health facilities countrywide.

According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 1,410 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 3,107 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Some 105 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 73 of whom are on ventilatory support and 27 on supplemental oxygen. 5 patients are under observation.

“Another 478 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 445 of them in general wards and 33 in High Dependency Units (HDU),” said MoH.

On the vaccination exercise, a total of 3,364,322 vaccines had been administered across the country by September 19. Of these, total first doses
were 2,504,869 while second doses were 859,453.

“The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was  at 34.3% with the majority being males at (55%) while females were at (45%). Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.2%,” said MoH.

“The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups was as follows:Aged 58 years and above 248,240, Others 272,076 Health Workers 139,263, Teachers 127,156 while Security Officers were at 72,718.”

The Ministry says the government is working towards vaccinating targetepopulation of 27,246,033.

Here is how many people have been vaccinated across the country: Baringo 14,861 (4.4%), Bomet 16,263 (3.5%), Bungoma 36,540 (4.3%), Busia 17,324 (3.7%), Elgeyo Marakwet 12,685 (5.2), Embu 39,094 (9.9%), Garissa 6,732 (1.7%), Homa Bay 24,172 (4.0%), Isiolo 12,570 (9.4%), Kajiado 52,605 (7.9%), Kakamega 47,641 (4.8%), Kericho 30,998 (6.1%), Kiambu 231,745 (14.3%), Kilifi 22,138 (2.8%), Kirinyaga 44,277 (10.7%), Kisii 22,807 (3.3%), Kisumu 69,118 (10.5%), Kitui 35,649 (5.7%), Kwale 12,865 (2.9%), Laikipia 42,464 (13.9%), Lamu 4,104 (4.9%), and Machakos 69,010 (7.6%).

Others include: Makueni 48,314 (8.3%), Mandera 5,888 (1.7%), Marsabit 2,578 (1.2%), Meru 49,019 (5.2%), Migori 24,355 (4.4%), Mombasa 66,357 (8.3%), Murang’a 60,331 (8.9%), Nairobi 819,924 (26.9%), Nakuru 125,607 (9.9%), Nandi 30,402 (6.2%), Narok 13,056 (2.4%), Nyamira 23,730 (7.0%), Nyandarua 43,903 (11.7%), Nyeri 95,374 (18.7%), Samburu 6,225 (4.3%), Siaya 28,530 (5.3%), Taita Taveta 22,069 (10.3%), Tana River 2,887
(1.9%), Tharaka Nithi 16,583 (6.7%), Trans Nzoia 35,654 (6.9%), Turkana 7,802 (1.7%), Uasin Gishu 77,608 (11.2%), Vihiga 21,038 (6.4%), Wajir 4,610 (1.4%) and West Pokot 7,363 (2.6%).

On the other hand, for the second dose a total of 859,453 personshad been fully vaccinated out of the targeted 27,246,033 for this phase.
