Kenya records 123 new Covid-19 cases as three more patients die
Kenya has confirmed 123 new Covid-19 infections marking the country’s highest number of infections recorded within 24 hours.
The new cases were recorded following the testing of 3,077 samples which is the largest sample size tested in the country since the outbreak of the disease, pushing the total number of cases to 1,471.
Out of the 123 cases, the bulk of the infections was recorded in Nairobi at 85 cases followed by Mombasa which registered 24 cases and Kiambu at 4.
Other counties are Kajiado with (3), Kisumu (2) while Garissa, Kitui, Kilifi, Busia and Uasin Gishu Counties have one case each.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe noted that Nairobi’s Mathare and Kibra areas had registered alarming numbers at 33 and 14 respectively.
Embakasi North had 12 cases, Embakasi Central (4), Westlands (4), Makadara (3), Ruaraka (3), Kamukunji (3), Starehe (2), Dagoretti North (2), Roysambu (1), Lang’ata (1), Embakasi North (1) and Embakasi South (1).
In Mombasa the cases are in; Mvita (9), Changamwe (4), Kisauni (4), Jomvu (30, likoni (3) and Nyali (1).
CS Kagwe further announced that the two cases from Kisumu are from a quarantine facility and are imports from Nairobi of persons who travelled to Kisumu for a burial.
The four cases in Kiambu were recorded in Kabete, Kikuyu, Ruiru and Juja while the three in Kajiado are from Namanga (2) and one case in Kitengela.
At the same time, three more patients have succumbed to the coronavirus disease raising the total number of fatalities in the country to 55.
Two of the three deceased persons were suffering from diabetes while the other was battling breast cancer.
Of the 123 new patients, the youngest is one-year old while the oldest in aged 76 years.
The Health CS in now appealing on Kenyans to volunteer for testing in the ongoing mass testing exercises even as he appeals on the public to strictly adhere to the recommended protective measures.
