Kenya records 141 new COVID-19 cases, 5 more deaths

The Ministry of Health has announced that 141 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 from 3,307 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 37,489 the number of confirmed positive cases.

From the cases, all are Kenyans except 7 that are foreigners.

“In terms of gender, 103 are males and 38 females. The youngest is a four-year old child, while the oldest is 74,” said Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi in a press briefing on Thursday.

Dr. Mwangangi also announced that five more patients had succumbed to COVID-19 bringing the total number of fatalities recorded so far to 669.

At the same time, the number of recoveries rose to 24,334 after 81 patients recovered from the virus.

Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows: Trans Nzoia 28, Nakuru 24, Nairobi 14, Mombasa 14, Kiambu 9, Migori 8, Kisumu 6, Kajiado 6, Uasin Gishu 5, Narok 5, Kitui 5, Turkana 4, Bungoma 2, Homabay 2, West Pokot 2, Machakos 2, Murang’a 1, Nandi 1, Vihiga 1, Meru 1 and Busia 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 28 cases in Trans Nzoia, are from Saboti (7) and Kiminini (1).

In Nakuru, the 24 cases are from Nakuru East (13), Naivasha (5), Nakuru West (4), Gilgil and Rongai (1) case each while in Nairobi, the 14 cases are from Langata (3), Roysambu and Westlands (2) cases each, Dagoretti North, Embakasi East, Embakasi South, Kibra, Makadara, Ruaraka and Starehe (1) case each.

In Mombasa, the 14 cases are from Kisauni (6), Jothvu (5), Mvita (2) and Changamwe (1).

In Kiambu, the 9 cases are from Thika (5), Kiambaa and Kiambu Town (2) cases each. In Migori, the .8 cases are from Kuria West and Suna East (3) cases each, Awendo and Rongo (1) case each.

In Kisumu, the 6 cases are from Kisumu Central (5) and Nyakach (1), while the 6 cases in Kajiado, are from Kajiado Central (4), Kajiado East and Kajiado North (1) case each.

The 5 cases from Uasin Gishu are from Ainabkoi (3), Kapseret and Turbo (1) case each, the 5 cases in Narok, are from Narok West (2), Narok East, Narok North and Transmara (1) case each, while the 5 cases in Kitui, are all from Kitui Central. In Turkana all the 4 cases are from Turkana West.

The 2 cases in Bungoma, are all from Kimilili, the 2 cases in Homabay, are all from Ndhiwa, the 2 cases in West Pokot, are all from the town, while the 2 cases in Machakos, are all from Athi River. The case in Murang’a, is from Kangema, the case in Nandi, is from Aldai, the case in Vihiga, is from Hamisi, the case in Meru, is from Imenti North, and the case in Busia, is from Matayos.
