Kenya records 142 new COVID-19 infections, positivity rate at 5.4pc

The Ministry of Health announced a 5.4 percent COVID-19 positivity rate on Wednesday, a result  of the 142 new infections detected from 2,650 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement to the press that the total number of confirmed positive cases had reached 171,226 and the total number of samples tested had reached 1,818, 416.

The new infections include 131 Kenyans and 11 foreigners, with 76 males and 66 females.

The oldest patient is 83 years old, and the youngest is 14 years old.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows: 0-9 years (1), 10-19 years (4), 20-29 years (23), 30-39 (42) 40-49 (21) 50-59 (23) 60 years and above (28).

Across the country, the new infections are spread out as follows: Nairobi 38, Kisumu 32, Uasin Gishu 14, Kilifi 12, Nandi 7, Meru 6, Machakos 4, Bungoma 3, Kiambu 3, Trans Izoia 3, Kwale 2, Laikipia 2, Mombasa 2, Nakuru 2, Siaya 2, Narok 1, Murang’a 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Homa Bay 1, Kajiado 1, Kericho 1, Kirinyaga 1, Kisii 1, Kitui 1 and Taital Taveta 1.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health reported that 16 patients had recovered from the disease, with 9 from various health facilities across the country and 7 from Home Based Care and Isolation Programme.

The total number of recoveries is now 117,039, with 85,047 from Home Based Care and Isolation and 31,992 from other health facilities.

Meanwhile, 18 new deaths have been reported, bringing the total number of deaths from the disease to 3,206.

“All the new deaths are late death reports from facility record audits conducted on diverse dates in the month of April and May,” the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

The distribution of new deaths by age is as follows: 6-9 years (0), 10-19 years (1), 20-29 (0). 30-39 years (0), 40-49 years (1), 50-59 years (1), 60 years and above (15).

While the distribution of cumulative deaths by age is as follows: 0-9 years (54), 10-19 years (22), 20 29 (109), 30-39 years (258), 40-49 years (402), 50-59 years (667), 60 years and above (1,694).
