Kenya records 185 new COVID-19 cases, 15 deaths

Kenya has recorded 185 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 2,047 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 9%.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Health said the total confirmed positive cases now stand at 186,053 while the cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,983,998.

“From the cases 171 are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners. 112 are males and 73 females. The youngest is a five-year-old child while the oldest is 91 years,” reads the statement.

The 185 cases are distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi 94, Bungoma 25, Mombasa 16, Machakos 11, Kakamega 7, Tana River 5, Kilifi 5, Kiambu 4, Homa Bay 3, Kajiado 3, Nakuru 3, Murang’a 2, Kericho 2, Kisii 1, Kwale 1, Makueni 1, Meru 1 and Tharaka Nithi 1.

At the same time, 15 patients are reported to have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths confirmed after conducting Facility Record Audits on diverse dates in the month of lune 2021.

Meanwhile, 1,186 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,102 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care program while 84 from various health facilities countrywide.

“Total recoveries now stand at 128,811 out of which 93,391 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 35,420 are from various heath facilities,” said the Ministry.

According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 1,151 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,426 patients are under Home Based Isolation and Care program.

Some 119 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 33 of whom are on ventilatory support and 47 on supplemental oxygen. 39 patients are under observation.

“Another 182 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 161 of them in general wards and 21 in High Dependency Units (HDU),” added the Ministry.

On the ongoing vaccination exercise, the Ministry says as of July 5, a total of 1,477,916 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, total first doses are 1,018,143 while second doses are 459,773.

“The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 45.2% with the majority being males at 55% while females are at 45%. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 1.77%,” said the Ministry.
