Kenya records 2,008 new COVID-19 cases, 6 deaths

Kenya has recorded 2,008 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 11,360 tested in the last 24 hours bringing the total confirmed positive cases to 128,178. This translates to a positivity rate of 17.7%.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Health noted that the new cases include 1,954 are Kenyans while 54 are foreigners.

“1,090 are males and 918 are females. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 94,” reads the statement.

The 2,008 new cases are distributed across the country as follows:
In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 1,071, Nakuru 189, Kiambu 105, Machakos 84, Mombasa 76, Uasin Gishu 64, Kitui 54, Kisumu 41, Meru 34, Tharaka Nithi 31, Kajiado 26, Kakamega 25, Murang’a 25, Garissa 24, Makueni 21, Baringo 20, Nyandarua 15, Trans Nzoia 14, Nandi 13, Kilifi 13, Nyeri 12, Turkana 11, Kericho 6, Laikipia 6, Busia 5, Embu 4, Bungoma 3, Migori 3, Taita Taveta 3, Kisii 2, Siaya 2, Kwale 1, Marsabit 1, Narok 1, Bomet 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1 and Kirinyaga 1.

The Ministry further announced that six deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, all of which are late death reports from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates.

At the same time, 245 patients have recovered from the disease, 165 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care, while 80 are from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 91,513.

A total of 1,192 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 3,777 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

“124 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 37 of whom are on ventilatory support and 78 on supplemental oxygen. 9 patients are on observation,” said the Ministry.

“Another 81 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 68 of them in the general wards and 13 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”

On vaccination, 90,340 vaccines have so far been administered across the country.
