Kenya records 241 new COVID-19 cases, positivity rate at 8.1pc

Kenya’s total of confirmed positive coronavirus cases hit 188,754 on Sunday, following 241 new infections announced by the Ministry of Health.

In a statement to the press, the Ministry said the new infections, tested from a sample of 2,961 had a positivity rate of 8.1 percent.

“From the cases, 222 are Kenyans while 19 are foreigners with 144 being males and 97 females,” the Ministry of Health said “The youngest is a six-month-old infant while the oldest ids aged 93.”

So far, Kenya has tested at least 2,015 samples.

Nairobi leads with the highest number of new infections at 165 cases followed by Kiambu with 16, Nyeri with 11 and Nakuru with 10.

In the rest of the country, the new infections are spread out as follows: Murang’a 6, Mombasa 5, Kajiado 2 4, Siaya 4, Homa Bay 3, Kisii 3, Kwale 3, Machakos 3, Kilifi 2, Meru 2 while Narok, Taita Taveta, Uasin Gishu and Bomet registered 1 case each.

Currently, there are 1,092 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide.

Some 4,077 others are under Home Based Isolation and Care program.

Elsewhere, 115 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 37 of whom are on ventilatory support while 58 on supplemental oxygen.

20 patients are being monitored.

Another 209 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 185 in general wards and 24 in High Dependency Units (HDU)

Meanwhile, 1,401 patients have recovered from the disease, pushing the total number of recoveries to 179,520.

“1,380 from Home-Based Isolation and Care, while 21 are from various health facilities across the country.” the Ministry of Health said. “Total recoveries now stand at 179,520 out of which 143,338 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 36,182 are from various health facilities.”

The death toll from the disease also hit 3,722 on Sunday following one more death; a late report discovered after facility record audit In July 2021.
