Kenya records 271 new COVID-19 cases, total infections hit 30,120

Kenya recorded 271 more positive cases of COVID-19 from 3,746 samples tested within the last 24 hours; this now takes the total number of infections so far to 30,120.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms on Sunday, said the new cases consist of 268 Kenyans and 3 foreigners, making up 170 males and 101 females aged between 8 months and 86 years old.

The cases were distributed across various counties, namely; Nairobi (126), Busia (14), Kirinyaga (13), Machakos (12), Narok (12), Kiambu (11), Kajiado (10), Kitui (10), Nakuru (10), Kisumu (8), Samburu (8), Garissa (8), Mombasa (6), Nyeri (4), Trans-Nzoia (4), Taita Taveta (3), Lamu (3), Kakamega (2), Kisii (2), Bungoma (1), Kilifi (1), Makueni (1), Murang’a (1), and Siaya (1).

The 126 cases in Nairobi were confirmed in; Westlands (16), Kamukunji (14), Ruaraka (11), Kasarani (9), Lang’ata (9), Roysambu (9), Embakasi West (7), Starehe (7), Dagoretti South (6), Embakasi East (6), Makadara (6), Dagoretti North (5), Embakasi South (5), Kibra (5), Embakasi Central (4), Embakasi North (4) and Mathare (3).

The CS also stated that 686 patients recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries to 16,656. 60 of the 686 were discharged from various facilities while 626 were under from home-based care.

He further noted that 2 more patients to COVID-19, bringing the tally of fatalities to 474.
