Kenya records 48 new COVID-19 cases; lowest in 3 months

The Ministry of Health on Monday announced that 48 people had tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 1,081 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 36,205 the number of confirmed positive cases.

This marked a record low compared to the number of cases that have been confirmed daily for the last three months, even as the infection curve continues to take a downward trajectory.

“From the 48 cases, all are Kenyans. In terms of gender 31 are males and 17 females. The youngest is a 12-year old child, while the oldest is 75,” said the Ministry’s CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi.

Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Mombasa 20, Nairobi 15, Tharaka Nithi 4, Kiambu 2, Kilifi 2, Meru 2, Machakos 1, Wajir 1 and Homabay 1.

At the same time, two more patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 624.

The number of recoveries now stands at 23, 243 after 176 people were confirmed to have recovered from the disease. 45 of the 176 patients recovered from the home-based care programme while 131 were discharged from various hospitals.

In terms of sub County distribution, the 20 cases in Mombasa, are from Jomvu (8), Mvita (7), Changamwe (4), and Likoni (1).

In Nairobi, the 15 cases are from Westlands (3), Embakasi East and Langata (2) cases each, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, Embakasi South, Embakasi West, Kibra, Makadara, Ruaraka and Starehe (1) case each.

In Tharaka Nithi, all the 4 cases are from Chuka. In Kiambu, the 2 cases are from Kiambu Town and Limuru (1) case each, the 2 cases in Kilifi, are from Ganze and Kilifi North (1) case each, while the 2 cases in Meru, are from Imenti North and Imenti South (1) case each.

The case in Machakos, is from Athi River, the case in Wajir, is from Wajir East, and the case in Homabay, is from Homabay Town.
