Kenya records 580 new COVID-19 cases, 5 more deaths

The number of COVID-19 cases in Kenya rose to 29,334 on Friday after 580 more people were confirmed to have contracted the virus following testing of 5,458 samples.

Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced that the new cases included 530 Kenyans and 50 foreigners with the youngest being a one-year-old baby and the eldest aged 92 years.

The number of COVID-19 related fatalities in the country rose to 465 after  five more patients succumbed to the virus.

At the same time, 198 more people were reported to have recovered from the virus raising the number of recoveries so far to 15,298. Out the 198 recoveries, 119 were under the home-based care programme while 79 were discharged from hospitals.

Out the 580 new cases, Nairobi recorded the highest at 375 followed by Kiambu 53, Machakos 23, Busia 17, Mombasa 15, Nakuru 15, Kajiado 14, Kisumu 12, Lamu 10, Nyeri 7, Laikipia 3, Baringo 2, Kisii 2, Turakana 2, Vihiga 2, Garissa 1, Bungoma 1, Murang’a 1, Nyandarua 1, Siaya 1, and Trans Nzoia 1.
