Kenya records 626 new COVID-19 infections, positivity rate at 9pc

The Ministry of Health announced a 9.3 COVID-19 positivity rate on Thursday, a result of the 624 new infections tested from 6,728 in the last 24 hours.

The new infections bring the overall number of confirmed cases and samples analyzed to 174,285 and 1,852,612, respectively, according to a press statement sent to the media.

“From the cases 567 are Kenyans while 57 are foreigners. 405 are males and 219 females. The youngest is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 94 years.” the MoH said on Thursday.

There are currently 991 patients in various health facilities across the country, with 4,940 individuals registered in the Home Based Isolation and Care program.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has 111 patients, 31 of whom are on ventilatory support and 66 on supplementary oxygen. A total of 14 patients are being monitored.

The new infections are distributed across the country as follows: 0-9 years (22), 10-19 years (43), 20-29 years (109), 30-39 (161) 40-49 (116) 50-59 (87) 60 years and above (86).

In the meantime, 313 patients have recovered from the disease, with 258 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program and 55 from health facilities across the country.

The overall number of recoveries is now 119,246 people, with 86,596 of them from the Home Based Care and Isolation program and 32,650 from various health facilities.

At the sametime, 17 new fatalities have been reported, bringing the total number of deaths to 3,362.

According to the Ministry, all the new deaths were late deaths reported after conducting Facility Record Audits on diverse dates in the month of May and June.

The new fatalities are distributed across the country as follows: 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (2), 40-49 years (1), 50-59 years (5), 60 years and above (9).

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (55), 10-19 years (23), 20- 29 (110), 30-39 years (275), 40-49 years (413), 50-59 years (697), 60 years and above (1,789).
