Kenya records highest single-day coronavirus case spike as 796 test positive

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Kenya rose to 15,601 after 796 people tested positive between Thursday and Friday, the Ministry of Health has announced.

The new cases are from 6754 samples tested in the last 25 hours and bring the total number of samples tested so far to 261,027.

Three of the new cases are foreign nationals while the rest are Kenyans aged between 1 and 87-years-old.

In terms of gender, the new cases consist of 503 male and 293 with the Ministry of Health announcing that 99% of the new cases are asymptomatic.

The cases are distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi (539) Kiambu (63), Kajiado (37). Machakos (57), Migori (26), Kericho (15) ,Narok (11), Uasin Gishu (11), Nakuru (7), Busia (6), Mombasa (4), Kisii (3), Murang’a (2), Laikipia (9), and Siaya (2).

Embu, Kisumu, Nyeri and Transzoia have (1) case each.

Kenya has also recorded 378 new recoveries; with MoH saying 199 of the new recoveries are people who were under the home-based care system.

Three patients have also succumbed to the coronavirus bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 263.
