Kenya reports 817 new COVID-189 cases, positivity rate at 12.9pc

Kenya’s total of confirmed, positive COVID-19 infections have hit 232,869, following a report of 817 new infections on Thursday. 

According to a Ministry of Health statement, the new infections, with a positivity rate of 12.9, were tested from 6,350 samples in the last one day. 

So far, Kenya has conducted at least 2,342, 869 COVID-19 tests. 

“From the cases 802 are Kenyans while 15 are foreigners,”  the Ministry of Health said on Thursday, “427 are females while 390 are males,” 

The youngest patient according to the Ministry is a four-month-old infant while the oldest is 110 years-old. 

Nairobi leads with the most new infections with 215 while Kiambu comes second, recording 110 new infections. 

Nakuru’s reported the third highest cases in the country with 45. 

In the rest of the country, the new infections are spread out as follows:ericho 44, Uasin Gishu 35, Kajiado 32, Machakos 32, Nyandarua 31, Kitui 30, Makueni 28, Kilifi 24, Garissa 24, Nyeri 23, Murang’a 21, Kirinyaga 14, Embu 13, Kisii 12, Laikipia 11, Tana River 10, Busia 8, Mombasa 7, Kakamega 6, Narok 6, Lamu 6, Baringo 5, Nandi 5, Siaya 4, Homa Bay 3, Samburu 3, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Trans Nzoia 2, West Pokot 2, Marsabit 1, Meru 1, Kisumu 1 and Vihiga 1.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,972 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 8,674 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

“156 patients are in theIntensive Care Unit (ICU), 126 of whom are on ventilatory support and 30 on supplemental oxygen,” the Health Ministry added. 

At the same time, 644 patients have recovered from the disease, pushing the total number of recoveries to 216,771. 

“559 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 85 are from various health facilities countrywide,” the Ministry said. 

Kenya’s death toll from the disease also rose to 4,635, following a report of 35 new deaths.

“One of them in the last 24 hours while 34 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in July and August 2021,” the Ministry said

Vaccination

Kenya had administered some 2,649,820 vaccines by August 25, as per the Ministry data, with 1,854,630 being the first doses while 795,190 were second doses. 

“The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 42.9% with the majority being males at 55% while females are at 45%.,” the Ministry said. 

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.92%.
