Kenya To Get Boost In Fight Against Poverty

This is after Denmark’s development cooperation (Danida) promised to donate 110 million shillings to fund Northern Rangeland Trust (NRT), an umbrella organization for community conservancies.

Danida has been working closely with Kenya’s ministry of environment, water and natural resources to improve the livelihood of marginalized communities in the Northern Kenya region.

Speaking in Samburu, Environment, Water and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary Judy Wakhungu said the project is a major boost to the country’s economy.

Through the planned strategies, the body aims at combating poverty through promotion of human rights and economic growth.

Danida has through the Kenyan government, set a goal of enhancing resilience to climate impact for the pastoral communities in arid lands of Northern Kenya.

The partnership also targets to teach pastoralists ways of adapting to climate change and reduce conflicts that arise from access to grazing land and water resources.

The organ was established in 1963, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

The NRT project currently covers a population of over 110,000 people.

NRT expects more conservancies to join the project, who will receive training and mentorship skills to educate and impact members of the society.
