Kenya to host IGAD summit this month
The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will on March 25 hold a summit to address the plight of refugees in the region.
Making the announcement during a press address at State House, Nairobi, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the international meeting will showcase the country’s commitment to regional stability and dealing with refugee situation it’s currently grappling with.
The Head of State, who was speaking alongside visiting United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, reiterated Kenya’s commitment to a human refugee repatriating program.
On his part, Guterres, has lauded cooperation between Kenya and UN on addressing the refugee crisis.
The UN Chief further noted that there is urgent need to address the terror threat in Somalia and the need to restore peace in the country.
