Kenya will not tolerate trade of ivory- President Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta has led the world in setting ablaze the largest ivory and rhino horn stockpile, warning that Kenya will not tolerate trade of the commodity.

President Kenyatta said Kenya will not allow the sale of its heritage, and he has promised to ensure those behind poaching face the law.

The event was also attended by Gabon’s President Ali Bongo who declared his full support for Kenya’s bid to have a total ban of ivory trade during the upcoming Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species later this year in South Africa.

On his part, Deputy President William Ruto called on other nations to support the fight against poaching by illegalizing ivory trade.

Dignitaries from all over the world among them US Deputy Secretary attended the event and also reiterated the need to urge other countries to support Kenyans in stopping the ivory trade.

Youth aged 17 years and below will be allowed to enter the Nairobi National Park for free for the next three days to witness for themselves the biggest haul of ivory ever burnt by any Government in the world
