Kenyan accused of stealing Ksh.140M in Dubai charged

A Kenyan woman, Rebecca Musau, who allegedly stole over Ksh.140 million in Dubai was on Thursday arraigned at Milimani Court, Nairobi.

The prosecution sought the court to allow police to hold Musau for a period of 14 days in order to complete investigations into the matter.

Prosecutor Lindsey Mugambi told Milimani Principal Magistrate Bernard Nzakyo that the suspect was arrested on July 3, 2018, at Namanga boarder while trying to cross to Tanzania.

She said that the Inspector General of Police had received information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the suspect, together with her accomplices, had left Dubai after it was reported that the money on transit had gone missing.

According to police, the suspect was taken to her home in Kamoru upon arrest where Ksh.13 million was recovered. She however failed to explain the source of the money.

The court further heard that the police will be seeking to have the lady extradited to Dubai where she is wanted.

The court, however, did not issue orders sought by the prosecution as the suspect’s lawyer was absent.

The trial magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded at Muthaiga Police Station for a night and her counsel be given access.

The matter will be heard on Friday July 6, 2018, and when directions over time expansion sought by the investigating officer will be issued.
