Kenyan cattle recovered in Somalia

136 cattle that were stolen from Balambala, Garissa three weeks ago and recovered in Dobhley, 16 Km inside Somalia, have been handed over to their owners.

Dadaab sub-county commissioner Albert Kimathi said that the recovery of the animals was made possible following negotiations between his office and his Dobhley counterpart in Somalia, Mr Siyat.

Kimathi thanked the administration in Dobhley for assisting in the recovery exercise despite working under a fragile government.

A one-hour standoff, however, ensued after Abuduwak clan elders accused their counterparts from the Aulian clan for doing little in the recovery of the stolen animals and wanted to use the ceremony for political mileage.

This came after  a security team led by area county commissioner James Kianda arrived at the venue in Alango Arba only to learn that the cattle were on their way to Balambala where area leaders wanted the handing over ceremony be held.

After the issue was resolved Kianda urged the two communities of  Abuduwak and the Aulian to peacefully co-exist and stop politicizing security issues.
