Govt recalls Gentamycin drugs countrywide

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has recalled Gentamycin drugs that are said to cause serious side effects to patients.

Chemists have been asked to quarantine the three injection drugs which are used to prevent or treat bacterial infections such as meningitis or pneumonia.

The affected drugs are Gentamed, Caregenta-80 and Dawagenta.

In a warning alert by the board, the Gentamycin drugs were found to cause severe headaches to patients after injection.

The three drugs are manufactured by China’s Cspc Ouyi Pharmaceutical Company, Shandong Shenglu and Shandong Xier Kantai respectively.

The board has asked pharmacies to provide it with details of the quantities of Gentamycin drugs in their facilities as well as those of their supplier or distributor.
