Kenyan lawyers, media denied access to Miguna Miguna

Kenyan lawyers to besieged Miguna Miguna are unable to access their client who is being held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Citizen TV has established that only his Canadian counsel has been allowed in to see him.

Journalists have also been blocked from seeing or talking to the self-proclaimed general of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

This comes barely two hours after Immigration Services boss Joseph Munywoki sent citizenship application forms to the airport to allow Miguna to regularise his Kenyan status.

Miguna has however refused to sign the documents saying that doing so would compromise the ongoing case.

His lawyer Cliff Ombeta has advised him against signing the documents since his rights as a Kenyan citizen were upheld by the Milimani High Court and it is now up to the Kenyan Government to prove otherwise.

“Miguna’s removal from Kenya was illegal…. what do they want us to regularise? Miguna’s status as a citizen has been declared by the court,”said Ombeta.

Regarding Miguna’s controversial Canadian passport Ombeta said: ” This matter could have been resolved very easily…. the court order number 2 indicates that they should be able to provide him documents to enter the country,  because they destroyed his document.”

Ombeta has since accused the government of trying to control Miguna’s movement by pushing him to apply for a tourist visa.

Miguna’s lawyers are demanding to be allowed access to their client and allege that he has been kept in a room where not even food is being given to him.

The Kenyan Government deported the fiery lawyer to Canada on February 7 for allegedly being in the country illegally.

He holds Canadian citizenship, a status he acquired in 1998 at a time when Kenya did not allow dual citizenship.
