Kenyan students win at World Lego Championships

Ten students from Green Garden Girls High School in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, who went to represent East Africa in the first ever World Lego League in Texas have won the award of the best NXT Robot.

The international teams competition is mainly for children aged 9 – 17 and was developed following a partnership between LEGO Company and a USA-based organization.

The students had emerged victors in a hotly-contested event of schools drawn from the East African region, thereby proceeding to the World Championship in Robotics Education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) held at Houston, Texas, from April 18 to April 21, 2018.

This year’s competition for Robotics in STEM education was held at Brookhouse School, Kenya, on March 17, 2018.

Nineteen national, private and international schools from East African Region participated in the event to the fun and excitement in learning STEM through making and Manipulating Lego Robots with a given theme.

The subject is aimed at stimulating children’s competencies, talents and creativity in the problem-solving process in line with the recently introduced curriculum.
