Kenyan, Sudanese nationals arrested, pistol recovered after Kikuyu robbery

Police in Kikuyu, Kiambu County on Monday night arrested two robbery with violence suspects and recovered a pistol.

The two, Kenyan and Sudanese nationals; Philemon Omboko Mwanza, 22 and Gout John Nyang, 23 were apprehended as they attempted to escape in a 14-seater matatu after committing a robbery.

…both suspects of Robbery with Violence were last night arrested & a Pistol loaded with Five ammunition were recovered from them after detectives intercepted a matatu they were using to escape after a robbery,” a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations read.

The officers were responding to reports of a robbery incident after a man was robbed of Ksh.3,000, an ATM card and his mobile phone as he alighted from a matatu in Kikuyu.

The three suspects, in their escape, opened fire forcing police officers to fire in the air as they ran after the suspects. Two of the suspects were nabbed in the chase with one managing to outrun the police officers.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as the police search for the suspect who made away.
