Kenyan suspected drug baron deported from Madagascar

A Kenyan citizen who is a suspected to be a drug baron is this morning expected in court after his deportation from Madagascar.

Ndechumia Bilali Kimali fled the country in 2015 when he was linked to the 7.6 Kilograms of Heroin seized in MV Baby Iris-the ship that was blown up by Kenyan authorities in the Indian Ocean.

Kenya Airports Authority’s CID Chief Joseph Mugwanja said the suspect would now face charges together with five others in a case pending at the Mombasa Law Courts.

“Bilali is believed to be the mastermind behind the trafficking of illicit drugs that were destined overseas. He is suspected to be a member of locally and foreign-based drug barons who are currently under investigations. Five suspects were arrested on that matter and taken to court,” said Mr Mugwanja.

The boat carrying the drugs valued at Ksh22 million was blown up in the high seas in a security operation led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.

“Let it be known that criminals committing crimes in Kenya and running to other countries will be pursued and brought back to face the law. Our law enforcement agencies are in constant communications [with those in other countries] to make sure criminals will not have a safe haven to commit crimes in our country or elsewhere,” he added.
