Kenyan who travelled from the US quarantined in Kitale with coronavirus-like symptoms

A Kenyan aviation student who just returned from Dallas, United States had been quarantined with coronavirus-like symptoms in Kitale.

Apprehensive residents of Gatua in the outskirts of Kitale town alerted the area chief and public health officials that the student returned home on Thursday.

“We heard rumours that a student who studies abroad had returned home with coronavirus-like symptoms, we alerted public health officials and the chief,” a resident told Citizen Digital.

The student had a high fever on Friday evening and was coughing incessantly.

Blood samples drawn from the student have been sent to the influenza lab for testing with the area chief Silverster Momanyi saying they are monitoring the situation.

“The student is from Texas in the United States and I’m told he was coughing and had a high fever, we are waiting to hear from the health officials now, ” the chief said.

Further, he asked the area residents to rest easy as the patient and his family had already been isolated.

Kenya has so far confirmed seven positive cases of the COVID-19 disease whose global figures stood at 276,474 as of Saturday morning, according to Worldometers website.

Total number of deaths worldwide is 11,417 and recovered cases are 91,954.
