Kenyan woman busted with cocaine in her stomach at Thailand airport

A Kenyan woman was arrested at at the Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, Thailand over cocaine smuggling.

The woman, whose name is yet to be released, was found with more than one kilogram of cocaine in her stomach.

”An x-ray showed she had swallowed 1.2kg of cocaine in a bid to avoid detection,” Niyom Termsrisuk, a Thai official said on .

The woman is said to have arrived in Bangkok from Angola.

She was arrested following a joint operation by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and the Air Interdiction Task Force(AITF).

In August this year, a Kenyan man identified as Glen Chibasellow Ooko was arrested at the same airport in Bangkok after he was found to have swallowed 68 packets of cocaine also weighing 1.2 kilogrgams.

Thailand is the most preferred route for drug trafficking route despite the death penalty for anyone found guilty of that offense in the country.

New York Times reports that the porous borders between Thailand, Myanmar and Laos known as the Golden Triangle makes the transit of narcotics much easier giving the dealers access to large markets in Asian markets such as China.

The American publication also reports that the positive lifestyle change of residents in the Golden Triangle after the area was discovered as a lucrative drug smuggling route is not a coincidence.
